It had been such a good start for the Pied Flycatcher brood numbers. But the sudden cool down and rain proved disastrous with the wipe out of two nests and 17 dead chicks in all. I assume the food source was stopped but so sad.
Six dead Blue tit chicks as well, and at fledging size really, only one of their nests is still occupied.
With more bad weather forecast for this weekend I hope the remaining chicks survive.
Although it seems terrible, having checked back in 2009 the Blue Tits were hit by the weather with not a single chick fledging from the 9 nests and 87 eggs.
On a happier note, lovely to see the Redpolls back, and also the young Greater Spotted Woodpecker young being fed by a parent.
